Moldoviţa household

Moldoviţa household is a household with reinforced fencing characteristic for the Hutsuls. It includes 6 parts (house, stables with storeroom, summer kitchen, storehouse, gate and fence) placed one following the other, under the shape of a closed yard with four sides.

Moldoviţa house is a type of Hutsuls house, with walls made of beams shaped on four sides and ending in dovetail joints. It is made up of a room, an uncovered hall and a large veranda. The four-sided roof, which harmoniously combines with the three-sided roof of the veranda, is covered with large shingles (90 cm). The decorations are also exquisite: there are two little pillars carved with geometrical volumes and backward consoles, multi-consoles at the corners, shingle forms on the roof ridge and on the smokers, the framings are clayed and painted white around the windows, contrasting with the colour of the beam walls.

Raşca kitchen (Moldoviţa village). The walls of the building are made of split beams, ending in dovetail joints. The ends of the beams are protruding on the outside. In front of the entrance, there is semi-closed veranda, with two-sided roof. It is pierced by the brick chimney of the stove.

Raşca storehouse. It is made up of one room and it is built using the same ancient technique, with beam veranda and special decorative elements: consoles, colonettes, having the trefoil cross carved in wood and the little gate’s pillars with the motif “man’s head” on the upper side.

Stables with storeroom. It is widely spread among animal breeders from Câmpulung area. There are three distinct rooms under the same roof: the stable for large animals, the hay barn and the storeroom. The wall beams are different from one compartment to the other: the posterior walls of the stables are round, the storeroom walls are split and the other compartments are carved on the four sides. The storeroom has also massive pillars, decorated with anthropomorphic motifs, very well balanced.

Based on the old construction technique and the accounts of the owners, these three constructions transferred from the same household have been dated at the end of the 18th century.

Moldoviţa gate and fence complete the household with reinforced fencing. The gate has massive pillars with distinct compartments for carriage and human access, the roof is four-sided, made of shingles. The large gate and the small gate are jointed with gipsy hinges. The massive fence is made of peeled beams and it completes the household.
