Shepherd’s dwellings – Kreciunivca area, Putila rayon, 1962
The dwelling where the shepherds made the cheese, prepared the food and rested. The wall frame is made of round wood. The construction is made of five walls, with ridged roof, no windows, and one entrance on the right side of the roof; above the fireplace there was a hole for smoke venting. It is made up of two rooms: «the hearth room» (because the hearth was in this room) and the cellar with annexes (where the wood is cut). The building retains the typical features of the structures from the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th century. During the next phase, it will be transferred in the Hutsuls exhibiting area. Together with the fence (the place where the sheep are directed after being milked during the night), the enclosure for sheep milking, the “zavatra” – a small room for shepherds to rest at night and the dog’s cage – it represents a household for shepherds.
